My name is Patricia Bowens. I have been involved with horses my entire life. Growing up in a hack stable in Orange County, NY. I spent my summers and weekends taking city-people out for 1 hour trail rides, all day. It was the greatest time in my life. I never had any formal training – just the equine school of hard knocks. The hack stable owner would bring home free Standardbreds off of the track, and I would have to teach them to canter so we could put them on the hack line.

In 1981, I left Orange County for NYC to start a career. While living in Brooklyn, NY, I found time to ride at Jamaica Bay Riding Academy off the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. This place was right on the beach and it was great to go out and ride along Jamaica Bay on the Brooklyn/Queens borderline. While working in Manhattan, I would find time to stop in at The Clairmont Riding Stable to take a horse out in Central Park. The route to the park consisted of city streets, riding alongside cabs and buses going up Amsterdam Avenue.

At the invitation of my boss, I started fox hunting with the Hidden Hollow Hounds, out of Colts Neck, NJ. This was a lot of fun and was right up my alley.

I moved back home to Orange County in 1995, met my husband Rich, and he decided that he wanted a horse too. So we created our little farm.

Rich and I trail rode all over NY and Vermont. One day, there was an ad in the local paper, “Come try Side Saddle at Ware Fox Run Farm.” Pokey and I spent the day trying this side saddle thing with Franny Johanns, and I was hooked! After many trials and tribulations trying to fit Pokey with an English sidesaddle, I came to the conclusion that this is not going to work on him. I was fortunate enough to have access to a wonderful Western side saddle and off we went! After lots of practice and trail riding aside, this little quarter horse took me to the Pennsylvania National Horse Show in 2003!

I work with my husband Rich in managing our construction business. Other family members include Mandy the Cat and Rudy the Doberman.
